Earth Physics Laboratory

The Earth Physics Laboratory (Laboratorium Fisika Bumi ITB) is a subdivision inside the PECS Research Group which runs the administration of our field equipment for (mostly) near-surface geophysical survey. For the last 40 years we serve the country with our expertise in several campaigns, such as:

  1. Gravity and Magnetic measurements for geothermal and geotechnical applications.
  2. Seismic Refraction for geotechnical (civil engineering) applications
  3. Seismic Reflection for coal seam detection
  4. Downhole Seismic and Elastmeter for geotechnical and foundation studies
  5. DC-Resistivity (ERT) and Self-Potential (SP) for groundwater, mining, and geotechnical applications
  6. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) for geotechnical and archaeological applications
  7. Well-logs for mineral, coal seam, groundwater, and geotechnical applications.
  8. Nondestructive Test for civil engineering applications (SASW, Sonic Viewer, etc.)

The organization of the lab is composed by the following structures,

Earth Physics Laboratory Head: Dr. Gunawan Handayani

Laboratory Staff:

Mrs. Nice Septiani (Secretary)

Sukardiyono (technician)

Akup (technician)

Our field worker / assistant are mostly done by our PECS (active) students whose jobs are in-conjunction with their respective final project / thesis research, where their work progress is supervised directly by the Earth Physics Laboratory head. We welcome invitation from institution and/or community that are interested to use our expertise and equipment to conduct field survey, laboratory research, and data interpretation.
